2015 CIPTE Conference was held successfully at the Great Wall Sheraton Hotel, Beijing, China on September 17th, 2015. 2015 CIPTE Conference was jointly organized by China Technical Association of Paper Industry, Paper Engineers’ Association from Finland and China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute, managed by China Pulp and Paper Magazines Publisher. About 200 delegates from domestic and abroad pulp & paper, paper-related enterprises, colleges & universities, research institutes attended the conference.

 

Mrs. Pirkko Molkentin-Matilainen, CEO of Paper Engineers’ Association from Finland delivered welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. Mrs Pirkko said,“Today, paper industry continues to face significant challenges on realizing environmental protection targets, developing new energy technologies, using new technologies and raw materials. We need to strengthen cooperation and resource sharing to respond to these challenges. Paper Engineers’ Association is pleased to work with China Technical Association of Paper Industry and China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute on organizing experts to introduce advanced technologies, new ideas and innovative solutions of paper industry, we believe that both sides and attendees benefit much from 2015 CIPTE Conference.”

 

 

The one-day CIPTE conference was hosted respectively by Mr. He Beihai, vice president of China Technical Association of Paper Industry, and Mr. Jin Fuming, director of academic committee, China Technical Association of Paper Industry. 11 experts from China, Finland, and USA delivered excellent presentations on the topic of market development, raw material supply, developing trend, new technologies application, et al.

 

 

Dr. Cao Zhenlei, executive vice president of China Technical Association of Paper Industry, delivered a presentation on the topic of “A Review on Recent Technical Progress of China’s Pulp and Paper Industry”. Dr Cao Zhenlei introduced some noteworthy new technologies on pulping, papermaking, tissue paper production and processing technologies in China’s paper industry, and predicted the future development focusing on the requirements of sustainable development, opportunities and challenges to China's paper industry.

 

 

Mr. Yao Han, director of Asia market, Paper Packaging Service, RISI Asia, made a presentation entitled “A Discussion of the Packaging Paper and Board Market and Outlook: Focus on Asia and Developed Regions”, Mr. Yao Han mainly introduced container board, boxboard and packaging paper market in Asia and developed regions, and made a prospection on these paper grades.

 

Mr. Li Liping, general manager of Pulp and Paper Products Council Consulting (Beijing) Co., Ltd. gave a presentation of “Global Market Pulp Supply & Demand”. Mr Li Liping highlighted market pulp demand, end use and distribution in the coming 5 years in North America, West Europe and China. He also predicted the production of market pulp over the next 5 years, and analyzed market pulp balance.

 

Mr. Li Jingwei, managing director of Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited, delivered a speech entitled “Recovered Paper Pricing Analysis and Outlook—From an Economic Perspective”. Mr. Li Jingwei described how to apply microeconomics in their procurement decisions, and analyzed global and domestic pricing and outlook.

 

Mr. Mikko Koskivirta, vice president of Poyry Industry in Asia, addressed the topic of “Future Trends of European Pulp, Paper and Board Market —Is It a New Opportunity for Asian Forest Industry?” Mr. Mikko Koskivirta explained what is happening in Europe and why the market has changed, pointed the drivers and challenges for moving to European market, suggested Asian industry to establish local advantages to improve business quality before enter European market.

 

The presentation of “Information System and Method to Identify the Effect of the Raw Materials and Process Conditions on the End Product Properties” was delivered by Mr. Matti Häkkinen, vice president of Savcor Oy. He introduced fiber resources for paper industry, pulping and papermaking data system. The potential of information collected from the production chain was analyzed, and the next generation diagnostic system was introduced as well. Mr. Matti Häkkinen concluded that the next generation diagnostic system would reveal cause – effect relationships to further optimize production chain.

 

Mr. Kari Räisänen, sales director, China, paper mills business unit, Valmet Technologies, Inc., gave a speech entitled “Review of New Technologies for Paper Machine Upgrades and Grade Changes”, Mr. Kari Räisänen mainly introduced some new technologies, new equipment and new solutions from Valmet, such as a totally new type of layering headbox, vacu-shoe/blade forming technology, high vacuum suction box, fabric insertion units, sizer combining film and spray applications, total process management innovations, et al.

 

Ms. Pirita Mikkanen, sales director,TM Systems Group, made a speech on the topic of “How to Improve Energy Efficiency of Paper Making up to 9%”. Ms. Pirita Mikkanen used two examples to share the experience of improving energy efficiency by technology rebuild,and she believed with energy efficiency actions China’s goal for paper industry energy conservation would be achieved.

 

Mr. Henry Hu, director, Paper Doctor Team, presented the speech of “Innovative Solution to Maximize Profitability through Scientific and Systematic Process Optimization”, Mr. Henry Hu pointed that “Paper Doctor” solutions would help to realize process optimization goal through process audit in pulp and paper production.

 

Mr. Dieter Wenninger, president of products & services, Asia, Voith Paper, made a speech on the topic of “Papermaking 4.0—The Future Potential of Papermaking”, Mr. Dieter Wenninger used “Industrie 4.0” as entry point to introduce “Papermaking 4.0” in Voith, he summarized the three big talents—OnEfficiency, OnCare and Smart Services, and shared two successful applications of papermaking 4.0.

 

Mr. Mikko Pfaffli, manager LC plate technology, Andritz Inc, gave a presentation titled “Rethinking the Art of Refining—Improving the Efficiency and Quality of Refining”. Mr. Mikko Pfaffli introduced MagnusTM theory—views refining process from an “inside” perspective to improve the efficiency and quality of refining. The Magnus™ provided 3 innovations to minimize Energy and the Total Cost of Ownership: spiral bars-Efficiency through Optimization; V-shaped groove-use of highly abrasion resistant alloys; strategically placed dams.

 

 

 

In the discussion section of the conference, many Chinese and foreign attendees actively raise questions and made comments. There was a very good interaction between the audiences and speakers.

 

Mr. Cao Chunyu, CEO of China Technical Association of Paper Industry and president of China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute summarized 2015 CIPTE Conference at the end. He said, “China’s paper industry has passed through the two stages of scale expansion and equipment technology promotion, and now comes the new developing stage of transformation & upgrading and core competition strengthening. In this period, energy conservation & emission reduction and meeting new requirements are the key for sustainable development of China’s paper industry. Therefore, it is crucial to organize high-level activities for technology exchange, information dissemination, and new concept discussion, 2015 CIPTE Conference has provided a platform for paper industry colleagues from all over the world to communicate with each other. The 11 topics in this conference, which were co-selected by China Technical Association of Paper Industry and Paper Engineers’ Association from Finland, are novel and targeted, the topics involve focuses and hotspots in paper industry. This conference offers reference for the sustainable development of China’s paper industry.”

 

 

CIPTE Conference is held during China International Paper Technology Exhibition, it is a high-level international conference for pulp and paper technology, and is a professional platform for paper technologists to understand the achievements and development trend of international paper industry. It has become one of the most influential and popular academic event of papermaking industry.
